What is the difference between CalmShield and Rootd?
Rootd is a panic-focused app: in-the-moment calming and education about panic attacks. CalmShield is in the same category, and it is built as a loop. SOS starts with the body, Wave Coach stays through the peak, aftercare and a panic log record what helped, and night mode keeps the screen dim. CalmShield also covers health anxiety, social anxiety, and wired days. CBT workbooks ask you to track thoughts during distress. During a crisis, CalmShield opens a body-first SOS from a widget instead. Optional Apple Health or Health Connect readings are a slower loop: sleep, heart rate variability, and resting heart rate against your baseline, used to soften the next plan. They do not run the SOS in real time. Neither app is therapy or emergency care. CalmShield does not publish a rating, a price, or a feature score for Rootd.
Rootd sits in the panic-app category
Unlike meditation libraries, Rootd is aimed at panic attacks. People look it up because they want help during a wave and an explanation of what the surge is. That is a fair reason to compare it with CalmShield. Both are panic tools. Neither is therapy.
What we mean by a closed loop
A breathe button helps some people for a few minutes. Recovery also needs the hour after, when shame and exhaustion show up, and the night, when a bright screen makes things worse. CalmShield's SOS can be ordered by what helped you before. Aftercare and the panic log are there so the next wave is less of a blank page. Night mode keeps the path dim.
Wider than the peak
Panic rarely travels alone. Health anxiety, social dread, driving, work, and a wired baseline sit next to it. CalmShield includes grounding, breathing, a fear ladder, courses, and guides for those patterns. If you only want a panic button and lessons, a panic-specific app may be enough. If you want the surrounding days covered too, that is what this one is for.
How to choose without a fake score
We do not publish a star rating for Rootd, and we do not claim a feature it may have added or removed. Read what each app says it does, and match that to the moment you actually need help: the peak, the night, the day after, or a daily practice.
