CalmShield
How it works

In the moment, after, and over time

Whether the wave is happening now or you're trying to be a bit braver next month

Right now

When the wave hits

Body-first tools for the peak. No lectures, no perfect wording. Open SOS and follow your panic plan

  1. Tap SOS from the tab or a home-screen widget — one body action first (Cold Reset, then your plan)
  2. Ride the Wave Coach, or resume it from Home if you leave
  3. Need something else? A chip appears at 90 seconds; the full set at three minutes
  4. Share a support message with someone you trust
After

When the peak passes

Recovery isn't failure. Your body might feel wired for 20 to 40 minutes. That's normal adrenaline, not danger

  1. Post-panic recovery: hydrate, rest, no fixing required
  2. Log what helped, even 1% counts
  3. Optional journal: one sentence is enough
  4. Remember: you survived this wave too
Over time

Building capacity

Short-term relief plus long-term change. Track patterns, take small brave steps, notice what actually works for you

  1. Mood check-ins reveal body signals and triggers
  2. Recovery dashboard shows trends and remembered wins
  3. Fear ladder and recovery missions for gradual exposure
  4. Education courses explain why panic happens, in plain language
Your first session

What happens when you open the app

Short onboarding. Nobody's grading you

  1. Welcome & onboarding

Short intro to CalmShield's approach: body-first, privacy-first, no streak pressure

  2. Optional account

Skip sign-in if you want — a short quiz still appears (it has its own Skip). SOS, night mode, and aftercare work before an account

  3. Anxiety profile quiz

A few questions about your patterns: night panic, social anxiety, health worry. So recommendations fit you

  4. Your home screen

Personalized hero action: SOS, breathing, mood check, or recovery, based on time of day. Add an SOS widget to your phone home or lock screen for the next wave

  5. Explore when ready

Education, fear ladder, audio downloads, journal. All available, none mandatory

Real situations

Tools for where anxiety shows up

Night-Panic Mode

Waking at 3am

Heart racing in the dark, mind going a mile a minute. Night-panic mode keeps things dim and helps you settle back toward sleep

SOS + Education

Health anxiety

When every sensation feels like an emergency. Education and SOS grounding help you tell alarm from actual danger

Fear Ladder

Social situations

Before events, mid-conversation, or after bailing early. Courage logs and the fear ladder for gradual exposure

Guided Breathing

Driving & travel

Highway anxiety, fear of losing control, panic in tight spaces. Guided breathing and steady voice when you're on the go

Mood Check

At work

Meetings, deadlines, open-plan noise. Quick mood checks and discreet breathing that fit a busy day

Panic Coach

Intrusive thoughts

Scary thoughts that feel urgent and real. Journal prompts and panic coach help you name them without feeding the loop

Post-Panic Recovery

After the wave

Exhausted, shaky, maybe a little ashamed. Post-panic recovery reminds you the wave passed and logs what helped

Daily Anchors

Daily sensitivity

Not a full panic attack, just a wired nervous system all day. Morning anchors and evening wind-down help you regulate

The science

Why these techniques work

Not magic. Grounded in what therapists use every day

Grounding & breathwork

Body-first regulation

When panic is loud, long explanations are hard to take in. Slow breathing and simple grounding help your body settle and bring you back to what's in front of you.

Psychoeducation

CBT-informed education

Learning how the alarm system works — and why sensations can feel so frightening — takes some of the fear out of fear. That's a core part of how CBT helps many people with panic.

Exposure therapy principles

Gradual exposure & inhibitory learning

Avoidance often keeps anxiety going. Small, repeatable steps toward things you've been avoiding are among the most studied ways to build confidence — including interoceptive exposure to bodily sensations.

Acceptance & skills traditions

Weekes, MBCT, DBT, ACT

Face, accept, float, let time pass. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy for rumination. DBT anxiety skills. Acceptance and commitment practices — offered as structured courses, not as therapy.

Behavioral tracking

Pattern awareness

Noticing mood, sleep, and triggers over time helps you spot patterns early — before a wave takes over — and feeds personalization of SOS and recovery nudges.
